STEM Employers Reach Out to Diverse Potential Employees in a Busy Spring

March 7, 2019

Lack of awareness of the rich array of STEM careers that could lie in their future is one obstacle that students in under-served communities confront. The Career Awareness and Preparation (CAP) program led by the Institute for STEM Education has grown over the years and now reaches Cal State East Bay students as well as high schoolers throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

  • Thanks to the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, and Aemtek Laboratories for hiring students from Cal State East Bay—the nation’s most diverse four-year campus—for paid internships this semester.

  • The CAP program has prepared more than 100 Cal State undergraduates by honing professional skills including drafting of high quality resumes and cover letters, and visiting local companies to explore work environments first-hand. As one students excitedly told his tour guide, "This is where the real learning happens - actually seeing the work environment and meeting the people!"

It is these kinds of experiences that help students see their path from college to career and builds the diverse workforce of the future. If you would like to participate in the CAP Program, please contact:
