Please join members of the Bay Area Basic Skills Partnership for a conference focused on promoting effective pedagogy and active engagement in the mathematics classroom. Faculty and teachers from local high schools, community colleges, and CSU campuses will share strategies and practices they use to engage students in active learning and to make learning visible.
Faculty will share strategies to promote active learning and solve problems of practice, and participants will engage in facilitated dialog to support personal planning and implementation.
This conference was developed in response to the shifting environment in which faculty are currently teaching. New Executive Orders at the CSU, new Assembly Bills at the Community Colleges, full implementation of Common Core at the K-12, new methods of student placement, changing assessments and ways of measuring success, have created lots of uncertainty and new pressures in our systems and from the students and families we serve. Within this context, and while our systems and leadership grapple with adapting to all the change, we have chosen to focus on supporting faculty to collaborate to strengthen teaching and improve pedagogy.
Registration is free. The deadline to register is Friday, January 18.
