STEM Career Awareness Day Inspires Next Generation

More than 150 students from East Bay high schools attended the annual East Bay STEM Career Awareness Day. Mayors Ally Medina of Emeryville and Jesse Arreguin of Berkeley kicked off the event held at Wareham Development’s Emery Station in Emeryville to inspire young people from under-served communities to pursue science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) studies and careers. New State Budget Offers Promise for Early Childhood Education

First Five of Alameda County is joining advocates statewide to generate public support of Governor Newsom’s first budget, which would make significant “investments in early childhood programs and policies we would like to implement or expand.” The budget, which is nearing final approval and takes effect July 1, includes $348 million to end childhood deep poverty in the CalWORKS program, nearly $155 million for home visiting and infant health services, and increases in child care services for low-income families. Early childhood education is also slated for major investments including planning for universal preschool throughout California, and $490 million to expand subsidized child care faci
